| Aero India 2009-Profile | Welcome to AeroIndia 2009, the biennial Air Show, organised by the Ministry of Defence. The Show comprises the Flying display, the static display, the exhibition and the International Seminar. While the flying / static displays and the exhibition showcase the products from all over the world, the International Seminar throws light on the current and emerging technologies. The Seminar is jointly organised by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI). | | | | Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) Government of India |  | The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) with its vision of getting transformed into a technological leader of world class has emerged today as a premier Technology Centre of global reckoning and is playing among others, a key role in the development of Defence Systems and Weapon Platforms related to Aerospace Technology. | Presently, DRDO has 54 laboratories spread all over the country and is deeply engaged in developing Defence technologies covering various disciplines like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, combat vehicles, engineering systems, instrumentation, missiles, advanced computing and simulation, special materials, naval systems, life sciences, training, information systems and agriculture. The organisation is backed by over 5000 scientists and about 25,000 other scientific, technical and supporting personnel. Several major projects for the development of missiles, armaments, light combat aircrafts, radars, electronic warfare systems etc are on hand and significant achievements have already been made in several such technologies.

The society was inaugurated by the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the great visionary of India, and its first Patron-in-Chief. Currently, the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Manmohan Singh is the Patron-in-Chief. | The Society has a strength of about 5000 members drawn from amongst scientists, Engineers, Operators, Journalists, Government Departments, Armed Forces, Research & Development Organisations, corporates and manufacturers, from the aviation and aerospace disciplines. The Society propagates its aims and objectives through 14 branches spread over the entire country by publishing journals devoted to research and dissemination of aeronautical knowledge, organising seminars, lectures & workshops and other aviation & aerospace related activities. |
